Born outside of Ottawa, ON to parents that would both pivot from tech to the arts, the world is no stranger to Julie Dey. High school was spent in the "Silicon Valley of Canada"  - but her passions would lead her to complete a degree in Animal Science. Moving to Nottingham, East Midlands, UK to persue e-sports gave her unique opportunities in the world of professional gaming.
In 2021 she moved to Vancouver, BC.
A versatile and experienced multi-disciplinary creator,  Julie has a comprehensive background in printmaking, woodworking, photography, embroidery, and painting. She continuously explores the intersection of these mediums, often blending them in innovative ways that challenge traditional boundaries and definitions of art. Her work reflects the complex experience of being a queer, millennial woman navigating the modern world with "nostalgic" hobbies.
She currently works in custom framing. She produces the finest canvases and frames for one of the best art supplies company in BC; handmade with meticulous detail and craftsmanship. Her work there has not only allowed her to perfect her framing skills and learn from the technical director of Cassese to repair and maintain incredibly specialised framing machinery but has also provided a platform for her to be curious about the intricacies of different art forms. This experience has broadened her perspective on art and continues to influence her individual work.
Julie's work is a testament to the power of exploration and the beauty of combining diverse mediums. Her art speaks to her complex experience - the struggles, triumphs, the influences of different cultures, living through sexual assault and abusive relationships, and the in-betweens. It's a reflection of a soul in a generation that's carving her own path, challenging norms, paying homage to traditional techniques in new ways, and developing her unique narratives.
Julie is a Supporting Member of the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA) and a Member of the Embroiderers' Association of Canada (EAC) with the Vancouver Guild of Embroiderers.
